Paul Simon Streams New Single: “Getting Ready For Christmas Day”
“It’s the best work I’ve done in 20 years,” Paul Simon told Showbiz411 about his forthcoming album, So Beautiful Or So What, which — not-so-coincidentally — was the last time Rhymin’ Simon went platinum. Not sure I’m ready to place the first single, “Getting Ready For Chistmas Day,” in the canon alongside tunes off Simon’s game-changing Graceland, but between the pleasantly disorienting 1941 sample of gospel artist/preacher Reverend J.M. Gates and catchy folk-pop melodies, I’d say this makes for a promising LP from the iconic singer-songwriter. Hear it above (via Stereogum and NPR).

Lost Boy - Frost Bite
New York’s Davey Jones just sent over a brand new self-recorded joint. Give this one a second to get started… once it does, it’ll grab ya. He’s got such a knack for deep hooks, slinging deceptively simple phrases around like they were deadly 90mph sliders. You think you know what’s coming, but wham! it curves just out of your reach.

PREMIERE - Reading Rainbow - Always on My Mind
When Rob and Sarah start playing together, there’s an electricity between them. “Transmit your energy with mine…” they sing, seemingly to one another, as this track starts off. It’s just one more step in their journey together as musicians, and I’m proud to say it was created right here in Philadelphia for Shaking Through.
This is the second of three sessions I curated for the project (see the first outing withTwin Sister). They jam-packed their time at Miner Street Studios, laying down three whole songs, all of which will be on their upcoming Hozac Records full-length release later this fall. Pick up a copy of this song free, right here, right now.
I hope you get involved with the non-profit Shaking Through project. WXPN and the Weathervane Music Project have partnered up to give up-and-coming bands an opportunity to record in a professional (and yes, beautiful, sun-drenched) studio here in Fishtown, Philadelphia - and keep the song and the learning experience with them.
Please share the news and support this radical project. Thanks for your support!
Shimmering Stars — I’m Gonna Try

Wiconsin’s Adelyn Rose just posted an absolutely stunning self-titled, self-released EP. Heartbreaking and beautiful, these folk songs are knitting in a rocking chair in wooly sweaters on the porch while watching an early-fall rainstorm, the kind that makes the leaves change blood red overnight. Eau Claire sure produces its share of incredible music, and its not a stretch to say this is as good as Bon Iver’s best.
This is happening tonight, special guests are Hunx & His Punks.
This is the only CMJ show I care about. Support Hardly Art and their amazing bands!
Ty Segall - “Pretty Baby”
Ty Segall is like a shot of espresso for your ears - short, more bitter than sweet, and you can feel it working on you within the first few moments. Good Morning.
